Tis the season..
It's been quite busy since I've been back in the states.. work, home, rush rush. At least it's the holidays. Not quite my personal best time of year but one that grants some peace to the spirit however large or small. I take it where I can get it.
Aside from the collection of unique and inventive gifts ( I know unique and inventive people.. I expect no less than for their thoughts and gifts to reflect that amazing intelligence that they all seem to possess ), its been the usual visiting relatives and holiday chaos. Whereupon the struggle begins.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Christmas, I really do. But its the spirit I enjoy. The rampant march of Commercialism that tends to stomp with black leather jackboots all over most holidays can take a hike. Shoppers ... even relatives .... screaming unpleasant phrases and threats at each other can give it a rest too. Usually I find the spirit in the chill of the evening, when the purveyors of Commercialism are sleeping with visions of commerce dancing in their heads. I doubt I'm alone, at least I hope I'm not. It would be a shame if I was.
I'm still looking for the spirit, I think its still there lost among the mounds of gifts, the mad panic of "Christmas Dinner" which often seems more obligation than enjoyment and so on..
I don't give up looking, that would be wrong. Like giving up on your dreams. 'Course I'm still looking for that second star to the right so I can follow it straight on till morning too.
So ... to any and all who happen by ... Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. *raises a glass* Cheers.
To 2006... you were interesting if not erratic.. no offense.
To 2007... remember .. play nice.
