When worlds collide

I always get a kick out of people and their particular interests. Especially when one particular fascination of one person runs full tilt into another. Especially these days of 'homogenized' entertainment.

For example ...

I was at the gym for lunch today and I was wearing an orange man-at-arms shirt with a black outlined drawing of Man-At-Arms from the most recent run of the He-Man cartoon. This guy in all black kept giving me this REAL strange look for most of the time I'm there. Finally he nerved himself up and came over then asked:

“Hey... hey, man, is … is that a Warhammer 40K shirt? Warhammer? 40k… yknow 40K shirt?”

Given I was standing there holding a 40 pound plate after doing back exercises I wasn’t really in the mood for conversation. I put the plate on the rack and shrugged, “No, sorry. It’s man-at-arms from the most recent He-Man cartoon series.”

“Uh … what?”

“Man-At-Arms … He-Man ?”

“Oh yeah yeah yeah … ok … uhm … yeah. Uhm, wow I really thought it was a 40K shirt. That’s cool though. Wow, yeah I feel like a big fool now ... uhm look, I’d better go before I just pass out. See ya!”

“Yeah, no worries. See ya.”

In no time flat he vanished off among the machines. It left me considering the moment and I did chuckle a little. I felt for him, he was a little embarrassed, and apparently he really thought it over hard and was convinced it was what he thought it was!

Again... such are the little joys of 'homogenized' entertainment. It all winds up looking alike.
